At least six persons have been reported killed, while over 100 others have been hospitalised following the outbreak of cholera in Aladja community, Udu council area of Delta State.
The Nation gathered that the outbreak started last week, affecting just a few persons, but sources in the community said the situation worsened with time, increasing the death toll and number of affected persons.
Although the cause of the outbreak has not been ascertained, The Nation observed that the source of water in the area is not safe enough for human consumption.
When contacted, the Chairman of Udu council area, Solomon Kpomah, confirmed the incident, saying that the council acted swiftly by deploying a team of medical personnel to the community to curtail further spread of cholera.
He said the state government had also sent its medical team to the area to test and treat those suspected to be affected.
