Mr. Rasak Fadipe, the Director of Lagos State Fire Service, on Monday said that the service would begin aggressive fire prevention campaign in the state.
He disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to him, the campaign will “go beyond press affair’’ as there will be door-to-door educational campaign on precautionary prevention against fire outbreak.
“The frequent fire outbreak in the state needs to be stemmed.
“The recent fire incident at Lawanson, Surulere Area, which claimed seven lives is one too many.
“Everybody, including the state governor, is worried.
“The fire service is not resting too; we have decided that we need to move beyond response to fire calls and embark on aggressive enlightenment on fire prevention,’’ he said.
He enjoined residents of the state to be mindful of how they used burglary proofs, especially at night.
According to him, being safety cautious is good and should be applied with emergency escape in mind.
He said that the fire service was doing its best to respond to fire calls and outbreaks in the state.
The fire service chief charged the residents to be careful and take necessary precaution to prevent fire outbreak.
“If fire is going to happen, let it be in unusual situation that is beyond what anybody can control,’’ he said.
He said that there was need for residents of the state to be vigilant and to alert fire service once they noticed unusual smoke anywhere.
Fadipe said that prompt calls would help the Fire Service to get to the venue of the incident on time.
